Necco Candy

NECCO (New England Confectionery Company) dates its start back to the summer of 1847. It is the oldest multi-line candy company in the United States. They were acquired as a portfolio piece of sorts by the company that would hire me to create the designs for the store front. The original site was rather bland and static by today’s standards. They wanted to retain their look while stepping more into the ‘web 2.0″ world of 2009. I’m not sure when the original website was created but it didn’t really allow for sales through it so much as it offered contact information to sales reps.
This was a really fun site to design – but it was my first crack at a E-commerce site so I had some research to do. I was able to work with other teams in the office to gather up all the pieces of the check out process and overall purchase procedure on the site.
In the e-com world you want it to be as few steps as possible to get to the checkout. The more steps/stages you have the more opportunity the customer has to back out of the deal, more or less. So with the process optimized, the color swatch for the site picked, and an overall idea of the retro illustration style I went at it. The only design criteria from my manager at the time… ‘No Pink’.
