Branding Design

Branding is more than just logo’s and letterhead. It’s an association between a customer and a business or product. It’s the opinion they have when they think of that business or product. That’s why it’s so difficult for people to wrap their heads around what branding is. Because it’s not a physical ‘thing’ you can just hold.

Your face is your icon. Peoples opinion of you is your brand. You want people to think, kind, helpful, dependable or authentic when they think of you… that is your brand. That opinion. Logo’s are the faces of products or businesses. But the brand is the opinion people have of that product or business.

It is important to create a ‘face’ for your product or business that is easily recognizable. Ever had that moment where you look at someone you’ve just met and thought – there is something about them my brain is warning me about. Well, appearances are important. Getting the shapes both positive and negative in a logo right is important. The underlying story in a logo is also important.

A long time ago when jack sparrow might be wandering the docks… most people could not read. So businesses would put up signage that made it quite clear what that business did. A loaf of bread… oh this is a baker.. Meat.. a butcher.. a tankard of ale… a pub. The imagery in a logo has the opportunity to be that first impression and tell the viewer what you’re about.
