Design Philosophy
The first thing I ask any client is “Why should I care?”. It’s not a rude question, and “because I’m paying you” is not the answer. If you can’t tell me why I should care then you have no story to pass on.
In my approach to design I like to discover your story. Once I have learned your story I can tell other people that story.
Any trained monkey can assemble some colours and shapes on a screen, throw some type at it.
A seasoned designer has a working knowledge of user experience (UX) research, the psychology of colour and years of working knowledge in best practices to match with that story. I want to make sure I address accessibility so that everyone can connect with your story regardless of their story. I have been in marketing and design for more than 20 years. I’ve made mistakes and learned from them. And that is what helps me to get to the heart of your story and it’s what lets me share it with others and help them to know why they should care.
How I Work
Discovery
This is the step of finding out all the reasons why someone needs to care about your story.
It’s where we uncover the requirements of your design and understand the persona’s that will be interacting with your design.
Build a Plan
This is where wireframes are created for the web or print drafts to be made. This is creating a ‘rough thing’ that has all the parts you need to be successful. When we have that, we can make it look attractive in a way that is appealing to the ‘audience’.
Publication
The final approved design heads to become a tangible printed thing or the website is made public. Both are considered ‘Published’.
At this point the public, your target audience gets to interact with the design.
